images of people shoppingWhat is the psychological explanation of shopoholism?

Why some people shop until they drop and what makes us buy useless stuff. I have heard that it is somehow related to self-esteem or self-image and people buy ‘identities’ but I couldn’t understand it quite well. Ultimately, my question is how can I restrain myself from buying useless stuff such as sparkle water, branded clothes and other overly priced products?
For some people, shopping fills a void. People who are depressed (whether clinical or just having a really bad day) will shop to make themselves fimages of people shoppingeel better, even if it just a temporary fix. Other temporary fixes for people who are depressed is to overeat/binge eating, drinking alcohol or drugs. To solve the problem you have to find the root of the issue that is causing this desire to shop.
i beleive it is often from an addictive personality, and the person is ultimately looking for thier next"fix". the "high" is very temporary and then the next fix seach begins again.

find out what you love to do ...like a hobby or join a grouimages of people shoppingp...and spend alot of time doing that instead.fill yourself up in other ways.
I think that shopping addictions have strong ties to materialism, and the need to boost ones self confidence by "one-upping" others. In restraining yourself from buying useless crap, I would ask myself before buying pricey products; "Do I really need this for any reason other than show?" ... If what you are buying is a necessity, then you should ask yourself; "Is there a cheaper alternative?"
